# Implore God Alone

According to the Quran, calling upon anyone or anything besides God—whether in prayer, supplication, or hope—is a grave act of association (shirk), signifying the attribution of partners to God. This act directly contradicts the Quran’s foundational principle of strict monotheism. Here is a summary of the Quranic verses addressing the concept of “du‘ā” ( دُعَاء )—the act of imploring, invoking, or calling upon.

\[19:48] “**I abandon you and what you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;from beside GOD. I will&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;only my Lord. By&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**imploring**</mark>**&#x20;my Lord alone, I cannot go wrong.**“

**وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**وَأَدْعُو**</mark>**&#x20;رَبِّى عَسَىٰٓ أَلَّآ أَكُونَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**بِدُعَآءِ**</mark>**&#x20;رَبِّى شَقِيًّۭا**

#### <mark style="color:red;">Imploring & Shirk (Association)</mark>

\[72:18] **The places of worship belong to GOD; do not&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;anyone with GOD.**\
\[72:19] **When GOD’s servant stood up&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**calling**</mark>**&#x20;on Him alone, almost all of them banded together to oppose him.**\
\[72:20] **Say, “Only I&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;upon my Lord; I never associate partners with Him.”**

**وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًۭا**\
**وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُوهُ**</mark>**&#x20;كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًۭا**\
**قُلْ إِنَّمَآ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**أَدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًۭا**

\[4:116] **GOD does not forgive idol worship (shirk),** and He forgives lesser offenses for whomever He wills. **Anyone who associates partners with GOD has strayed far astray.**\
\[4:117] **Indeed they&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;from beside Him female** **(idols)**; as a matter of fact, they only <mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark> a rebellious devil.

**إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ**ۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُۚ **وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَٰلًۭا بَعِيدًا**

**إِن&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِهِۦ إِلَّا إِنَٰثًۭا** وَإِن <mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark> إِلَّا شَيْطَٰنًۭا مَّرِيدًۭا

\[40:12] **This is because when GOD ALONE was&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**invoked**</mark>**, you disbelieved, but when others were associated with Him, you believed.** Therefore, GOD’s judgment has been issued; He is the Most High, the Great.\
\[40:13] He is the One who continuously shows you His proofs, and sends down to you from the sky provisions. Only those who totally submit will be able to take heed.\
\[40:14] **Therefore, you shall&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;God ALONE exclusively devoted to Him the religion**, even if the disbelievers dislike it.

**ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّهُۥٓ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**إِذَا دُعِىَ**</mark>**&#x20;ٱللَّهُ وَحْدَهُۥ كَفَرْتُمْ وَإِن يُشْرَكْ بِهِۦ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ۚ** فَٱلْحُكْمُ لِلَّهِ ٱلْعَلِىِّ ٱلْكَبِيرِ\
\
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُرِيكُمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقًۭاۚ وَمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ إِلَّا مَن يُنِيبُ\
\ <mark style="color:blue;">**فَٱدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ** وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ

\**See also 39:45*

\[35:40] **Say, “Consider the idols you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;beside God; show me what on earth have they created.” Do they own any&#x20;*****partnership*****&#x20;in the heavens?** Have we given them a book wherein there is no doubt? Indeed, what the transgressors promise one another is no more than an illusion.

**قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ شُرَكَآءَكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَرُونِى مَاذَا خَلَقُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ لَهُمْ شِرْكٌۭ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ** أَمْ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ كِتَٰبًۭا فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍۢ مِّنْهُۚ بَلْ إِن يَعِدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا إِلَّا غُرُورًا

\
\[40:73] They will be asked, “**Where is what you used to associate,**\
\[40:74] **beside GOD?”** They will say, “They have abandoned us. In fact, when <mark style="color:blue;">**we implored**</mark> them, we were upon nothing.” Thus does GOD send the disbelievers astray.

ثُمَّ قِيلَ لَهُمْ **أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ**\
\
**مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ** قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا بَلْ لَمْ نَكُن <mark style="color:blue;">**نَّدْعُوا۟**</mark> مِن قَبْلُ شَيْـًٔاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

<mark style="color:red;">**Worship (Abud) & Imploring**</mark>

\[6:56] Say, “**I am forbidden from&#x20;*****worshiping*****&#x20;what you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**invoke**</mark>**&#x20;besides GOD.**” Say, “I will not follow your opinions. Otherwise, I will go astray, and not be guided.”

**قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ** قُلْ لَآ أَتَّبِعُ أَهْوَآءَكُمْ قَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذًۭا وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ

\[26:72] **He said, “Can they hear you when you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**?**\
\[26:73] **“Can they benefit you, or harm you?”**\
\[26:74] **They said, “No; but we found our parents doing this.”**\
\[26:75] **He said, “Do you see these idols that&#x20;*****you worship*****.**\
\[26:76] You and your ancestors.\
\[26:77] I am against them, for I am devoted only to the Lord of the universe.\
\[26:78] The One who created me, and guided me.”

**قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>\
**أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ**\
**قَالُوا۟ بَلْ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ**\
**قَالَ أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ**\
أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ ٱلْأَقْدَمُونَ\
فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّۭ لِّىٓ إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ\
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَنِى فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ

#### <mark style="color:red;">No Power to Intercede</mark>

\[43:86] **None of those whom they&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;beside Him possess any power to intercede, unless their intercession coincides with the truth, and they fully know.**

**وَلَا يَمْلِكُ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِهِ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَ إِلَّا مَن شَهِدَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ**<br>

#### Can’t Harm, Benefit, or Help

\[6:71] Say, “**Shall we implore, beside GOD, what possesses no power to benefit us or hurt us,** and turn back on our heels after GOD has guided us? In that case, we would join those possessed by the devils, and rendered utterly confused, while their friends try to invite them to the guidance: ‘Stay with us on the right path.'” Say, “GOD’s guidance is the right guidance. We are commanded to submit to the Lord of the universe.

قُلْ **أَنَدْعُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُنَا وَلَا يَضُرُّنَا** وَنُرَدُّ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَٰبِنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَىٰنَا ٱللَّهُ كَٱلَّذِى ٱسْتَهْوَتْهُ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ حَيْرَانَ لَهُۥٓ أَصْحَٰبٌۭ يَدْعُونَهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَى ٱئْتِنَاۗ قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى ٱللَّهِ هُوَ ٱلْهُدَىٰۖ وَأُمِرْنَا لِنُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

\[7:197] **“As for the idols you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;from beside Him, they cannot help you, nor can they help themselves.”**

**وَٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَكُمْ وَلَآ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ**

\[10:106] **“You shall not&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;from beside GOD what possesses no power to benefit you or harm you. If you do, you will be a transgressor.”**

**وَلَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكَ وَلَا يَضُرُّكَۖ فَإِن فَعَلْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِذًۭا مِّنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ**

\[17:56] Say, **“**<mark style="color:blue;">**Implore**</mark>**&#x20;whatever idols you have set up beside Him.” They have no power to relieve your afflictions, nor can they prevent them.**\
\[17:57] **Even the idols that they&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;are seeking the ways and means (ٱلْوَسِيلَةَ) towards their Lord. They hope for His mercy, and fear His retribution.** Surely, the retribution of your Lord is dreadful.

قُلِ <mark style="color:blue;">**ٱدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ كَشْفَ ٱلضُّرِّ عَنكُمْ وَلَا تَحْوِيلًا**\
\
**أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمُ ٱلْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُۥ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُۥٓۚ** إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُورًۭا

\[22:12] **He&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**calls**</mark>**&#x20;beside GOD what possesses no power to harm him or benefit him; such is the real straying.**\
\[22:13] He <mark style="color:blue;">**calls**</mark> what is more apt to harm him than benefit him. What a miserable lord! What a miserable companion!

<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهُۥ وَمَا لَا يَنفَعُهُۥۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلضَّلَٰلُ ٱلْبَعِيدُ**

<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُوا۟**</mark> لَمَنْ ضَرُّهُۥٓ أَقْرَبُ مِن نَّفْعِهِۦۚ لَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ وَلَبِئْسَ ٱلْعَشِيرُ

\[35:18] No soul can carry the sins of another soul. **If a soul that is loaded with sins&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implores**</mark>**&#x20;another to bear part of its load, no other soul can carry any part of it, even if they were related.** The only people to heed your warnings are those who reverence their Lord, even when alone in their privacy, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat). Whoever purifies his soul, does so for his own good. To God is the final destiny.

وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌۭ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰۗ **وَإِن&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُ**</mark>**&#x20;مُثْقَلَةٌ إِلَىٰ حِمْلِهَا لَا يُحْمَلْ مِنْهُ شَىْءٌۭ وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَا قُرْبَىٰٓۗ** إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَۚ وَمَن تَزَكَّىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَتَزَكَّىٰ لِنَفْسِهِۦۚ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

\[39:38] If you ask them, “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they will say, “GOD.” Say, **“Why then do you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**invoke**</mark>**&#x20;from beside GOD? If GOD willed any adversity for me, can they relieve such an adversity? And if He willed a blessing for me, can they prevent such a blessing?” Say, “GOD is sufficient for me.” In Him the trusters shall trust.**

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُۚ قُلْ **أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَادَنِىَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ هَلْ هُنَّ كَٰشِفَٰتُ ضُرِّهِۦٓ أَوْ أَرَادَنِى بِرَحْمَةٍ هَلْ هُنَّ مُمْسِكَٰتُ رَحْمَتِهِۦۚ قُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ يَتَوَكَّلُ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ**

<mark style="color:red;">**Imploring in the Religion**</mark>

\[7:29] Say, “**My Lord advocates justice, and to stand devoted to Him alone at every place of worship.** **You shall exclusively&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;Him alone in the religion.** Just as He initiated you, you will ultimately go back to Him.”

**قُلْ أَمَرَ رَبِّى بِٱلْقِسْطِۖ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍۢ** <mark style="color:blue;">**وَٱدْعُوهُ**</mark>**&#x20;مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَۚ** كَمَا بَدَأَكُمْ تَعُودُونَ

***

\[40:65] He is the Living; there is no god except He. **You shall&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;Him alone, exclusively devoting the religion.** Praise be to GOD, Lord of the universe.

هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ <mark style="color:blue;">**فَٱدْعُوهُ**</mark>**&#x20;مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَۗ** ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

***

\[40:14] **Therefore, you shall&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;God ALONE exclusively devoted to Him the religion**, even if the disbelievers dislike it.

<mark style="color:blue;">**فَٱدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ** وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُون

\[10:22] He is the One who moves you across the land and sea. You get onto the ships, and they sail smoothly in nice breeze. Then, while rejoicing therein, violent wind blows, and the waves surround them from every side. **This is when&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**they implore**</mark>**&#x20;GOD, sincerely devoting the religion to Him alone:** “If You only save us this time, we will be eternally appreciative.”

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُسَيِّرُكُمْ فِى ٱلْبَرِّ وَٱلْبَحْرِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا كُنتُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ وَجَرَيْنَ بِهِم بِرِيحٍۢ طَيِّبَةٍۢ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِهَا جَآءَتْهَا رِيحٌ عَاصِفٌۭ وَجَآءَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْجُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍۢ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ أُحِيطَ بِهِمْ <mark style="color:blue;">**دَعَوُا۟**</mark>**&#x20;ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ** لَئِنْ أَنجَيْتَنَا مِنْ هَٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ

***

\[31:32] When violent waves surround them, **they&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;GOD, sincerely devoting the religion to Him alone.** But as soon as He saves them to the shore, some of them revert. None discards our revelations except those who are betrayers, unappreciative.

وَإِذَا غَشِيَهُم مَّوْجٌۭ كَٱلظُّلَلِ <mark style="color:blue;">**دَعَوُا۟**</mark>**&#x20;ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ** فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌۭۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ إِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍۢ كَفُورٍۢ

<mark style="color:red;">**Idols Abandon**</mark>

\[7:37] Who is more evil than those who invent lies about GOD, or reject His revelations? These will get their share, in accordance with the scripture, then, when our messengers come to terminate their lives, they will say, “Where are the idols you used to <mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark> beside GOD?” They will say, “They have abandoned us.” They will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦٓۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يَنَالُهُمْ نَصِيبُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ <mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark> مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۖ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا وَشَهِدُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ كَٰفِرِينَ

\[40:73] They will be asked, “**Where are the idols you used to associate,**\
\[40:74] **beside GOD?”** They will say, “They have abandoned us. In fact, when <mark style="color:blue;">**we implored**</mark> them, we were upon nothing.” Thus does GOD send the disbelievers astray.

ثُمَّ قِيلَ لَهُمْ **أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ**\
\
**مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ** قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا بَلْ لَمْ نَكُن <mark style="color:blue;">**نَّدْعُوا۟**</mark> مِن قَبْلُ شَيْـًٔاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

<mark style="color:red;">**Idols Can’t Respond**</mark>

\[7:194] **The idols you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**invoke**</mark>**&#x20;besides GOD are creatures like you. Go ahead and call upon them; let them respond to you, if you are right.**

**إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ عِبَادٌ أَمْثَالُكُمْ فَٱدْعُوهُمْ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ**

\[46:5] **Who is farther astray than those who&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;beside GOD who can never respond to them until the Day of Resurrection and are totally unaware of their&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**calling**</mark>**?**

**وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّن&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَن لَّا يَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُۥٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ وَهُمْ عَن&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**دُعَآئِهِمْ**</mark>**&#x20;غَٰفِلُونَ**

\[13:14] <mark style="color:blue;">**Imploring**</mark>**&#x20;Him is the only truth (legitimate supplication), while the idols they&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;beside Him, cannot ever respond in anything.** Thus, they are like those who stretch their hands to the water, but nothing reaches their mouths. The supplications of the disbelievers are in vain.

**لَهُۥ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**دَعْوَةُ**</mark>**&#x20;ٱلْحَقِّۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَسْتَجِيبُونَ لَهُم بِشَىْءٍ** إِلَّا كَبَٰسِطِ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى ٱلْمَآءِ لِيَبْلُغَ فَاهُۖ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَٰلِغِهِۦۚ وَمَا دُعَآءُ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ

***

\[35:13] He merges the night into the day, and merges the day into the night. He has committed the sun and the moon to run for a predetermined period of time. Such is GOD your Lord; to Him belongs all kingship. **Those you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;from beside Him do not possess as much as a seed’s shell.**\
\[35:14] I**f you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;on them, they cannot hear you. Even if they hear you,&#x20;*****they cannot respond to you*****. On the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your your idol worship.** None can inform you like the Most Cognizant.

يُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ كُلٌّۭ يَجْرِى لِأَجَلٍۢ مُّسَمًّۭىۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ لَهُ ٱلْمُلْكُۚ **وَٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ** **مِن دُونِهِۦ مَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِن قِطْمِيرٍۢ**

**إِن&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُوهُمْ**</mark>**&#x20;لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**دُعَآءَكُمْ**</mark>**&#x20;وَلَوْ سَمِعُوا۟ مَا ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لَكُمْۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَكْفُرُونَ بِشِرْكِكُمْۗ وَلَا يُنَبِّئُكَ مِثْلُ خَبِيرٍۢ**

<mark style="color:red;">**Idols Cannot Create**</mark>

\[16:20] As for the idols they <mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark> beside GOD, they do not ***create*** anything; they themselves were created.

وَٱلَّذِينَ <mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark> مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا ***يَخْلُقُونَ*** شَيْـًۭٔا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ

\[22:73] O people, here is a parable that you must ponder carefully: **the idols&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**you invoke**</mark>**&#x20;beside GOD can never create a fly,** even if they banded together to do so. Furthermore, if the fly steals anything from them, they cannot recover it; weak is the pursuer and the pursued.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ضُرِبَ مَثَلٌۭ فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥٓۚ **إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَن يَخْلُقُوا۟ ذُبَابًۭا** وَلَوِ ٱجْتَمَعُوا۟ لَهُۥۖ وَإِن يَسْلُبْهُمُ ٱلذُّبَابُ شَيْـًٔا لَّا يَسْتَنقِذُوهُ مِنْهُۥۚ ضَعُفَ ٱلطَّالِبُ وَٱلْمَطْلُوبُ

\[46:4] **Say, “Consider what you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;beside GOD. Show me what on earth did they create. Do they own part of the heavens? Show me any other scripture before this one, or any piece of established knowledge (that supports your idolatry), if you are truthful.”**

**قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُم مَّ**<mark style="color:blue;">**ا تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَرُونِى مَاذَا خَلَقُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ لَهُمْ شِرْكٌۭ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ ٱئْتُونِى بِكِتَٰبٍۢ مِّن قَبْلِ هَٰذَآ أَوْ أَثَٰرَةٍۢ مِّنْ عِلْمٍ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ**

\[35:40] **Say, “Consider the idols you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;beside God; show me what on earth have they created.” Do they own any partnership in the heavens?** Have we given them a book wherein there is no doubt? Indeed, what the transgressors promise one another is no more than an illusion.

**قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ شُرَكَآءَكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَرُونِى مَاذَا خَلَقُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ لَهُمْ شِرْكٌۭ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ** أَمْ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ كِتَٰبًۭا فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍۢ مِّنْهُۚ بَلْ إِن يَعِدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا إِلَّا غُرُورًا

<mark style="color:red;">**Truth vs. Falsehood**</mark>

\[22:62] It is a fact that GOD is the Truth, while what they <mark style="color:blue;">**invoke**</mark> beside Him is falsehood, and that GOD is the Most High, the Supreme.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا <mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark> مِن دُونِهِ ٱلْبَٰطِلُ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ<br>

<mark style="color:red;">**Conjecture**</mark>

\[10:66] Absolutely, to GOD belongs everyone in the heavens and everyone on earth. **Those who call partners from beside GOD are following nothing except conjecture. They only guess.**

أَلَآ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِۗ **وَمَا يَتَّبِعُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ شُرَكَآءَ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا** **يَخْرُصُونَ**

<mark style="color:red;">**Idols Cannot Judge**</mark>

\[40:20] GOD judges equitably, while the idols they <mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark> beside Him cannot judge anything. GOD is the One who is the Hearer, the Seer.

وَٱللَّهُ يَقْضِى بِٱلْحَقِّۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ <mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark> مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَقْضُونَ بِشَىْءٍۢۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ

<mark style="color:red;">**Muhammad Forbidden to Call Beside God**</mark>

\[40:66] Say, “I have been enjoined from <mark style="color:blue;">**calling**</mark> from what you <mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark> from beside God when the clear revelations came to me from my Lord. I was commanded to submit to the Lord of the universe.”

قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ <mark style="color:blue;">**أَعْبُدَ**</mark> ٱلَّذِينَ <mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark> مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَمَّا جَآءَنِىَ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ مِن رَّبِّى وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

\[6:56] Say, “**I am forbidden from&#x20;*****worshiping*****&#x20;what you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**invoke**</mark>**&#x20;besides GOD.**” Say, “I will not follow your opinions. Otherwise, I will go astray, and not be guided.”

**قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ** قُلْ لَآ أَتَّبِعُ أَهْوَآءَكُمْ قَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذًۭا وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ

<mark style="color:red;">**General**</mark>

\[19:48] “**I will abandon you and the gods you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;besides GOD. I will&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;only my Lord. By&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**imploring**</mark>**&#x20;my Lord alone, I cannot go wrong.**“

**وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**وَأَدْعُو**</mark>**&#x20;رَبِّى عَسَىٰٓ أَلَّآ أَكُونَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**بِدُعَآءِ**</mark>**&#x20;رَبِّى شَقِيًّۭا**

\[6:40] Say, “What if GOD’s retribution came to you, or the Hour came to you: **would you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;other than GOD,** if you are truthful?”\
\[6:41] The fact is: **only Him you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>, and He resolves what **you&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;Him for**, if He so wills, and you forget your idols.

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتَكُمْ إِنْ أَتَىٰكُمْ عَذَابُ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ أَتَتْكُمُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ **أَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark> إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

بَلْ **إِيَّاهُ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark> فَيَكْشِفُ **مَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;إِلَيْهِ**ۦ إِن شَآءَ وَتَنسَوْنَ مَا تُشْرِكُونَ

\[25:68] **They never&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**implore**</mark>**&#x20;beside GOD any other god,** nor do they kill any soul—for GOD has made life sacred—except in the course of justice. Nor do they commit adultery. Those who commit these offenses will have to pay.

**وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ** وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ ٱلنَّفْسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا يَزْنُونَۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَامًۭا

\[26:213] **Therefore, do not&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;from beside GOD any other, lest you incur the retribution.**

**فَلَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُ**</mark>**&#x20;مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُعَذَّبِينَ**

\[28:88] **You shall not&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;another god with GOD**. There is no other god beside Him. Everything perishes except His presence. To Him belongs all sovereignty, and to Him you will be returned.

**وَلَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُ**</mark>**&#x20;مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَۘ** لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُۥۚ لَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

<mark style="color:red;">**Masjids (Places of Worship)**</mark>

\

أَلَآ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِۗ **وَمَا يَتَّبِعُ ٱلَّذِينَ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُونَ**</mark>**&#x20;مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ شُرَكَآءَ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا** **يَخْرُصُونَ**

***

\[72:18] **The places of worship belong to GOD; do not&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;anyone with GOD.**\
\[72:19] **When GOD’s servant stood up&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**calling**</mark>**&#x20;on Him alone, almost all of them banded together to oppose him.**\
\[72:20] **Say, “Only I&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**call**</mark>**&#x20;upon my Lord; I never associate partners with Him.”**

**وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**تَدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًۭا**\
**وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**يَدْعُوهُ**</mark>**&#x20;كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًۭا**\
**قُلْ إِنَّمَآ&#x20;**<mark style="color:blue;">**أَدْعُوا۟**</mark>**&#x20;رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًۭا**
